Today the California Democratic Party endorsed Wendy Carrillo in the Assembly District 51 Special Election. Carrillo won the vote among Party delegates with 71% of the vote.

In their endorsement of Carrillo, California Democratic Party Chair Eric C. Bauman said:

“Wendy Carrillo is an unflinchingly progressive Democrat and a relentless fighter for our Democratic values. She is a champion for educational opportunity, access to quality healthcare, living wage jobs, and social justice.

“Wendy’s time on the frontlines of the environmental justice, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, and the worker rights movements well-prepare her to be an outstanding member of the Assembly. Wendy is a leader with passion and conviction, and that is exactly what we need to resist Trumpism and advance our progressive values.”

Carrillo, who finished in first place in Tuesday’s primary election among thirteen candidates, said she was proud to earn the Party’s support:

“It’s truly an honor to win the endorsement of the California Democratic Party. I appreciate the faith that the Party has put in me as their candidate in Assembly District 51. My campaign has been about opportunity, equality and social justice. I will continue to fight for our values and to ensure that those who need a voice in our political system are represented,” Carrillo said.

The California Democratic Party endorsement follows other major endorsements this week with Congressman Jimmy Gomez and Senate President pro Tem Kevin De León throwing their support behind Wendy Carrillo to be the next Assembly representative in AD 51.

In Friday’s election update posted by the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters, Carrillo widened her lead over the second place finisher. The General Election for Assembly District 51 will be held on December 5.
