Wendy Carrillo’s campaign for Assembly District 51 announced today that former US Secretary of Labor and current Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis has endorsed Carrillo’s candidacy for State Assembly.
“I am excited to endorse Wendy Carrillo for State Assembly,” said Supervisor Solis. “Wendy is the best choice to represent us in Sacramento, and I know she will work tirelessly to make our community and state a stronger, safer and more prosperous place to live and work. Whether it is protecting the rights of working men and women, standing up for environmental justice, standing with our immigrant communities, or fighting for access to quality healthcare, Wendy will be on the frontlines as a true champion for all Californians. We need her in the State Assembly fighting for us.”
Prior to her election to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Solis was appointed by former President Barack Obama to serve as the 25th United States Secretary of Labor, and previously served as a Member of Congress from California’s 32nd District in the seat now held by Congresswoman Judy Chu.
“I am honored to receive the support of one of our state and nation’s greatest public servants, Supervisor Hilda Solis,” said Carrillo. “Supervisor Solis and I share a core commitment to protecting the rights of California’s working men and women. As a legislator, I look forward to continuing to partner with Supervisor Solis and will fight for fair wages and access to quality education on behalf of all Californians.”
Supervisor Solis’ endorsement is the latest in a wave of support for Carrillo. In recent weeks, Congressman Jimmy Gomez, LA Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and former LA Councilmember Ed Reyes have all thrown their support behind Carrillo.
The General Election for AD 51 will be held on December 5, 2017.
