Today, Wendy Carrillo’s campaign for Assembly District 51 announced that California Coastal Commissioner and former AD 51 Special Primary Election candidate Mark Vargas has endorsed Carrillo’s candidacy for State Assembly.
Commissioner Vargas said: “The 51st Assembly District needs a strong leader who will champion the rights of workers, vigorously defend our immigrant communities and protect our neighborhoods. Wendy is that champion, and I’m standing with her.”
Carrillo emerged from the October 3rd Special Primary Election in first place among a crowded field of 13 candidates. She is the only candidate to be endorsed by the California Democratic Party.
“I am honored to receive the support of Commissioner Vargas,” said Carrillo. “If elected to represent the hardworking men and women of the 51st Assembly District, I will stand up for our families and children by fighting for access to high wage jobs, quality healthcare, education and affordable housing. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Commissioner Vargas as we fight to ensure all Californians have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.”
Commissioner Vargas joins Congressman Jimmy Gomez, Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor in supporting Carrillo’s candidacy to be the next Assemblymember from AD 51. Since placing first in the October 3rd Special Primary Election, the momentum behind Carrillo’s campaign has continued to surge.
The General Election for AD 51 will be held on December 5, 2017.
